Madison Dalgety
BSc (Hons) Neuroscience, BSc (Hons) Psychology, Master of Clinical Neuropsychology and Clinical Psychology (In Progress)
What is your background?
My pathway into psychology has incorporated training across Australia and New Zealand, including psychology, neuropsychology and neuroscience. I have had a broad range of experience working with children across care-based, volunteer and clinical roles with presentations including ADHD, autism, cognitive impairment, anxiety and depression. I have additionally worked across the lifespan with patients experiencing neurodegeneration, stroke and brain injury.
Throughout my training, I have worked in university clinics, hospital settings, private practice and research projects. These experiences have incorporated Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) while prioritising an individualised approach to care.
Do you have any professional interest areas?
I love working with children and families because of the opportunity to support growth, resilience, and self-confidence during important stages of development. I find it rewarding to help children to communicate and understand their experiences in unique and creative ways, and I enjoy adapting therapy to meet them where they are. I also find it incredibly rewarding to work alongside families to collaboratively identify goals and support meaningful change in their young people and broader family system.
What are your strengths?
I consider one of my strengths to be building genuine and trusting relationships with my clients. Seeing a psychologist can be a vulnerable and daunting experience and I strive to create feelings of safety and understanding while also incorporating fun and enjoyment into my sessions. Combined with my experience working alongside multidisciplinary teams, this helps me to take a holistic approach that considers the role of family and other important supporters in each child’s journey.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Outside of psychology, I enjoy staying active, spending time outdoors, and exploring new places with friends and family. Having grown up in New Zealand before moving to Brisbane, I love making the most of the sunshine and getting out for walks, beach trips, and weekend adventures.
