Brielle Thompson

BPsychSci (Hons) M.Psych (Clin), Master of Clinical Psychology

What is your background?

I am a Registered Psychologist with experience in various roles including support work, management, teaching, and research. I have enjoyed working with people across the lifespan, from 5 years to 90 years, in primary and secondary schools, university clinics, medical centres, and inpatient rehabilitation centres.

I tailor my approach to suit the unique needs of each client, drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy (ST), Solutions-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT).

Through these modalities, I strive to foster a sense of ease and joy, promoting values-based actions and meaningful, holistic change for my clients.

Why do you like working with children, adolescents, and their families?

The highlight of working with children, adolescents, and their families is harnessing creativity to navigate complex challenges. I thoroughly enjoy incorporating curiosity, playfulness, and humour in the pursuit of therapeutic goals. And I am continually inspired by learning from children’s stories, insights, and interests!

I strongly believe in the importance of early intervention and prevention, and I enjoy collaborating with families, schools, teachers, and allied health professionals to ensure a holistic approach.

What are your strengths?

I consider myself a warm, enthusiastic, and compassionate person, with a particular strength in creating relevant and engaging sessions. I am dedicated to fostering an understanding and non-judgmental environment that empowers clients to be themselves. I approach therapy through the lens of seeking what brings meaning and value, emphasising the importance of healthy and helpful choices.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my spare time, I enjoy a variety of activities. My mischievous puppy, TigerBear, keeps me endlessly entertained with his daily antics and sniff-athons. As my studies draw to a close, I’ve discovered a newfound love for reading and often find myself lazing on the grass with my Kindle. I have a keen interest in both physics and interior design, and I also practice yoga regularly. Additionally, I love spending time with family and friends, especially when it involves enjoying delicious food together.
